Hi there! My name is Matthew Meents and I am a sophomore at Corning High School. I am a member of Corning FFA and have a swine project for the 2020 Tehama District Fair. Joe, my 260 lb Hampshire was purchased the first part of January. Since I brought him home, his health, nutrition and well-being has been my number one priority; making sure he is fed, bathed, walked and has a clean, safe and comfortable environment. My dad and I built both an indoor and outdoor show ring which gives me the opportunity to learn, practice and polish my technique and showmanship in any kind of weather. This is my seventh year with a swine project; my first five years were as a member of Corning 4-H which has given me many years experience, knowledge and solid work ethic. These last two amazing years of experience with Corning FFA has been very beneficial in building an even stronger foundation of knowledge and work ethic. In addition, I have also continued learning commitment, responsibilities, teamwork, accounting and leadership skills. I have earned my FFA greenhand degree and chapter degree. I had the incredible opportunity to attend National Convention last fall, taking me through four different states. Last year I earned my Emerald star in 4-H for a groundwater project; I visited several different elementary schools where I shared the importance of sustainable groundwater. After I graduate high school I will be attending Shasta College to obtain my Ag Business degree.
