My name is Miley DeSmet, I am 12 years old and in 6th grade at Berrendos. I am a member of Antelope 4H, and I have been for the past 6 years. This is my 2nd year raising beef for the fair. My steer is a cross between Maine and Angus. His name is Joe, he weighs about 1150 pounds. I have had Joe since November. He weighed just over 500 pounds when I bought him. My favorite part about raising beef is showing them. This year, Joe had lots of hair which was fun to wash and fit. He eats about 20 pounds of grain each day, 10 pounds in the morning, and 10 pounds at night. He also eats hay. I learned a lot this year and I cant wait to raise another steer next year!
