Howdy! My name is Maddi Johnson. I am 13 years old and have been in Milford 4-H for 8 years. I am the Milford 4-H President this year. I have been raising my two steers for this years fair since October. Blackjack is a Simmental Angus cross and weighed 1400lbs on July 1st. At first Blackjack didn't care for love and affection. When he sees me now he waits patiently for his scratches and loves to be brushed. He has even snuck a bite of buttermilk bar a time or two. He is very tall which has made showing him a challenge because I can't see over his head. This year was very difficult and emotional with COVID-19 cancelling school and all of our normal activities. My steers and I participated in virtual livestock shows and traveled out of state to get practice at shows. Outside of 4-H I enjoy playing basketball and taking photographs. One of my photos from last year's fair was featured in Plumas Bank's Calendar for the month of May. 4-H has taught me responsibility, flexibility and the importance of time and money management. I plan to save my 4-H money to pay for college before or after I serve our great country in the United States Marine Corps. Thank you for stopping by to look at my steer!
